The Killing Rooms Of Mosul Are Filled With Bodies And Mystery | Full Segment (HBO)

MOSUL, Iraq — In March, VICE returned to Mosul for the first time since the war against ISIS was declared over eight months ago.

While life may be returning to normal in the eastern half of the city, on the other side of the river — where the fighting was most intense — the scale of rebuilding that needs to be done is monumental. It’s estimated there are still 8 million tons of conflict debris that need to be moved before reconstruction can start, equivalent to three times the size of the Great Pyramid of Egypt. About 75 percent of that rubble is in West Mosul, and it’s mixed with so much unexploded ordnance that experts say this is now one of the most contaminated spots on the planet.

In the Old City, where ISIS made its last stand, residents have slowly started to come back – a few business owners hoping to repair shops, and families who have no other option but to live in their damaged homes. Some water tanks have been trucked in, and electricity cables have been temporarily patched together along some streets, but the place feels deserted, and in some ways the scene was not that different from how it looked shortly after the fighting.

  1. Unfucking believable, this is unknown and certainly not in the mainstream news, im in shock, this is so bad it doesnt register, western governments what are they doing, whats the UN doing for fucksake !

  2. so what if that room full of body's where family of isis fighters the too deserved death. why ask Iraqi people about it get real it was all out war mass killings will happen.

  3. The idea of making any investigation to every murder is just delusional…this is war, almost all crimes wont be investigated. The reporter knows it, but is his job making the question anyways.

  4. The culprit will send a plane to bomb the building and the very culprit will send the plane with aids. all just to gain influence and favor of the people. ultimately winning over the region.

  5. I'm tired of people asking for someone else to do what's necessary when whatever needs to be done. Grown as human beings complaining I see dead bodies here or over there, in that situation all those adults who' choose not to pick up anykind of weapon and flee are just as guilty for what happen over there. SMH..

  6. all over the world, state forces come to kill militants. and kill militants, including civilians. bombs everywhere. They shoot bullets every time to kill militants. militants die. but also among civilians. then a member of the press comes. as if all destruction had been done by militants. and people believe in it. whereas the destructive burning is always the power of the state. yes the civilians are dead. but who killed? the state killed. Iraq Syria (Musul rakka Aleppo and other cities) Afghanistan Chechnya Philippines Somalia Thailand Vietnam and all over the world. Islamic State is over? no. tomorrow will come back more stronger.

  7. In Judaism the greatest deed of all is disposing of the dead as with every other deed it's possible to be motivated by an outside cause but in this there's no one to thank you. I always imagined accomplishing this deed would be cleaning a body that died of natural causes in a sterile room but seeing the actual circumstances of this is chilling. Never mind Rabbis priests or whatever you believe, these are the true selfless people of God

  8. the capitalist in me wants that guys shop to leave the wall as it is to have a placard and also have a display for where that guy was dug up. god this is awful what a mess war is.

  9. Very good example of a strong woman leader. Impressive! This sounds harsh but isn't bombing it easier and then building over it or something where people don't have to risk their lives like this?

  10. This is what I want from Vice. Unbiased reporting on real issues. Uncensored human experience and touching stories.
I'm tired of the left and right leaning bullshit narratives which treat the viewer like mindless children.
You know you have a real story and a real reporter when there is no made up narrative trying to invoke feelings, but the story does it without any need for made up hype.
Thank you Vice, please come back as you were!

  11. If I could, I would help her. I have done this before. Old and broke, but, I do offer prayer. Bless you, you remarkable woman….. The General has enough on his plate. The special agency should help this woman and her volunteer’s. All of them, top of the line.

  12. The twisted ideology or unclear and inconcise philosophy of the Prophet Muhammad is to blame. I wish he would have wrote in the Koran that no death, hurt, hate or evil should be imposed on anyone regardless of their gender, race, religion/creed, or beliefs. Only love to all humanity and living beings. The middle east would be showing the rest of the world how to live among peace. I hope that GOD forgives the Mr. Muhammad at judgement day along with a 70 something women he is currently with right now. It hurts me to see innocent children die due to Muhammad and his idea that "all infidels must die even yourselves if you believe in me". I don't get it. People should compare John Lennon with Muhammad. John Lennon said Give peace a chance. I'll preach that all day. Give peace a chance.

  13. Earth is heaven and hell..for many millions live in HELL…and if you live by the SWORD you Die by the sword…a ppl in crisis to live in peace with their own then how you can live with others?

  14. I have so much respect for the lady and her team… don't leave the corpses lying around, kids shouldn't see these kind of things; I've seen too much dead bodies as a kid and it's still stuck in my head till today

  15. So Isis can get tanks, guns, ammunition, explosives but these volunteers can't even get proper masks or suits to protect them from that hellish situation?
